Math Education & Science Education - MS
In this online, hybrid program, you’ll draw upon current research to create innovative and inclusive science and math learning environments. Faculty in Oregon State’s College of Education will help you develop a broad range of instructional strategies so you can meet the needs of diverse learners at different levels of development. This is a hybrid program that blends predominantly asynchronous online coursework with limited face-to-face sessions. The in-person class meetings — in fall and winter terms — provide an opportunity to work directly with peers on Oregon State's Corvallis campus for two Saturdays per quarter. Remote participation via Zoom is also available for these sessions. Program graduates earn a K-12 Oregon Teaching License and the state of Oregon has reciprocity with many other states.

What to Expect
Students complete a series of Education prerequisite courses including an Education Psychology Course, an Inquiry is Math or Science Education course, a Foundations of ESOL course, and either complete an observational practicum in the content and grade they intend to teach. Additionally, students must complete all courses for their content area prior to entering the first term of the program.
The Master of Science in Education is offered in a hybrid medium. All courses are offered through Ecampus. However, two courses, one Fall term and one Winter term, have face-to-face or virtual meetings on two Saturdays. The student teaching experience is completed in-person at a local school district. Students may take some prerequisites, content courses, or primary degree requirements online or at a community college. See your advisor for details.
We provide guidance and encourage students to connect with local organizations to gain hands-on experience working with youth. Students can also connect with faculty to engage in research and get involved in clubs/organizations to gain leadership experience.
You need to complete an approved licensure program in Oregon that aligns with the subject you want to teach. The Master of Science in Education is an option for secondary education in several subjects: Advanced and Foundational Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Integrated Sciences and Physics. Students interested in Elementary Education can complete our BS in Teaching.

Our Licensure and Placement Specialist and other faculty will assist you in the steps to apply for your Oregon teaching licensure. We also provide support in applying for teaching positions or exploring graduate programs to enhance your skillsets.
You can complete the content mastery courses prior to coming to OSU. We will review your transcripts to confirm that your course credit fulfills the prerequisite courses outlined. If you are missing any coursework, we can work with you to register for equivalent credits through OSU, a community college, or institution local to you.
Yes, you can earn graduate credits that apply to both your Undergraduate and Graduate degrees as a part of Oregon State’s Accelerated Master’s Platform (AMP).
