ABOUT THE Program

At Oregon State University, we offer multiple degrees in Adult and Higher Education: EdM, EdD, PhD. Additionally, the program offers a graduate certificate in Instructional Design. The master’s degree and graduate certificate are fully online. The EdD doctoral program is in a hybrid format (online with face-to-face classes in Portland, OR) and the PhD will be a full-time program based in Corvallis (pending approval).


 

Instructional Design Graduate Certificate: This certificate is designed to provide you with applied skills and knowledge for designing, implementing and assessing educational programs in a variety of formats (in-person, online and hybrid). In the process of completing this one-year certificate, you’ll gain an understanding of how adults learn and process information and the ability to identify their learning preferences. Master of Education (EdM) in Adult and Higher Education: This program will prepare you to meet the unique demands of adult leaders in business and industry, government, community agencies, online environments, and community college programs. Our courses in theory, instructional and system design, assessment, research, and instructional technology, as well as internships, provide you with the tools and knowledge to design curriculum and implement the most effective learning strategies in a variety of educational settings throughout your professional career. The Adult and Higher Education Doctoral Program offers two degrees:

  • The EdD degree is designed for students interested in advancing in leadership positions in higher education, with a purpose of educating students to apply research to practice and develop practitioner knowledge. Learn More
  • The PhD degree is designed for students interested in pursuing research and policy positions in higher education, with a purpose to develop the research competencies for students who are interested in generating new knowledge in the field of higher education. Learn More
