The content mastery sheet is a course guide to prepare students for their desired teaching endorsement area (also referred to as an option in the undergraduate Education Degree). The courses and requirements identified on these sheets are options that align with state and national standards for the content/endorsement area.

For Education Degreestudents:

  • Download the content mastery sheet that corresponds with the endorsement area (option) you plan to teach and use it as a guide for courses you can take to fulfill each area. If you are a current OSU student, many of these courses may be met with courses from Baccalaureate Core requirements (indicated on the document) or dual major courses (dual major recommended – not required).

  • Once you have declared Pre-Education with desired content mastery endorsement/option you will be able to track completion of these courses in MyDegrees. Speak with your advisor if there are courses listed on these documents that are not listed in MyDegrees.

  • As you complete courses listed on the sheet, you can record the course number, the number of credits, the term you took it, and the grade you received OR track completion of your requirements in MyDegrees. Keeping track of your completed content courses will be helpful to your application into the Professional Level/ Student Teaching Cohort of the Education Degree.

For Prospective Master's (MS and MAT) Students:
  • Download the content mastery sheet that corresponds with the endorsement (subject) area you wish to teach. Use this sheet as a guide to identify and track courses you have completed at OSU or other colleges/universities. Review with your advisor for guidance.

  • Tracking completion of the requirements will be helpful to your application into the Master's Program.

Helpful Things to Know:

  • Pay attention to the credit requirement in each area of the content mastery endorsement/option. Many courses may be included as options, but you may not need to take every course listed.

  • The content mastery sheets are updated on a regular basis (typically once a year) and course changes may occur due to changes in state standards. You may continue to use prior sheets to track completion of requirements or request to change to an updated year. Connect with an Education advisor at least once per academic year with any questions and ensure you are fulfilling the necessary requirements.

  • For admission to the Professional Level/ Student Teaching Cohort of the Education Degree and the Master’s Program, a 3.0 or higher GPA is preferred in the content mastery endorsement/option. All courses must be passed with a C- grade or higher.

  • Classes suggested on the content mastery sheet or courses from other institutions may be replaced by petition, see an Education advisor for details.
