Program Structure
Our undergraduate teaching degrees consist of two phases, the Pre-Major (first 90+ credits) and the Professional Level (final two years of the program). While in the Pre-Major, students complete prerequisite courses, general education, and courses to prepare for the content area they plan to teach.
When they have completed the necessary criteria, students apply to the Professional Level (2 years), which consists of a practicum year observing in a classroom and a full year of student teaching year where students will participate in over 700 hours of mentored classroom experience!

Professional Level Application Requirements and Deadlines
Our Professional Level cohort begins every fall. To move into the Professional Level, you will need to have the following requirements completed. You will also submit an application, which is due by August 15th of the year you are ready to begin the Professional Level. You will start the process during New Student Onboarding (NSO), specifically during the Activate phase.

Bachelor of Arts/Science in Elementary Education
The B.A./B.S. in Elementary Education is a single degree that incorporates all the requirements for becoming an elementary education teacher and apply for an Oregon teaching license upon graduation. Students can complete the first two years of the degree at any Oregon Community College.

Bachelor of Arts/Science in Secondary Education
The B.A./B.S. in Secondary Education allows you to earn a bachelor’s degree with a specialized content area that aligns with the subject you want to teach. Students are encouraged to add a dual major or double degree that aligns with their desired teaching area. A degree in Education to give you the methods and strategies needed to teach at the secondary level (grades 6-12). Students can apply for an Oregon teaching license upon graduation. Frequently Asked Questions
If you meet the eligibility criteria to enter the Professional Level listed above, you will begin receiving information on the professional level application process during the Activate Phase (advising) of New Student Onboarding! Visit the New Student Onboarding website for more details on the new student onboarding process.
We recommend starting by using the Transfer Credit Evaluation tools and our transfer guides to determine how your credits may transfer. Some courses may be a direct equivalent to an OSU course but may already be approved to satisfy a Core Education or major requirement. If you have credits that aren’t already approved to satisfy a degree or major requirement, there are petition processes available Our academic advisors will assist you with the petition process.
It depends. In addition to completing two years (or 90 credits) at a community college, we have additional requirements that must be met in order to enter the Professional Level of our programs (listed above). The timeline will also vary based on how many credits you want to take per term. We encourage you to review the requirements list and to connect with our Undergraduate Recruiter who can walk you through the process and get you connected to an Academic Advisor
Once a student has been admitted to OSU, paid their advance tuition deposit, and submitted official transcripts from ALL of their prior colleges, the Office of Admissions will begin the process of articulating student transcripts. For more details, refer to the OSU Transfer Student FAQ page.
Oregon State University accepts college transfer work from all regionally accredited institutions. Up to 135 quarter credits can be applied towards your 180 total credits required for a bachelor’s degree. Additional credits beyond the 135 may still applied to satisfy individual major requirements.
