Master of Education (EdM) – Online

The Master of Education program is not accepting new enrollments. Please contact Carol McKiel, carol.mckiel@oregonstate.edu, 541-737-1546, for more information. Current students are still able to register for courses.

This is not a licensure program.  Applicants need to be working teachers or informal educators with access to a learning environment.

The Master of Education (EdM) degree advances the knowledge and teaching of K-12 teachers or informal educators who are interested in continued professional development in the field of education in order to create inclusive, supportive environments that contribute to learning and growth. Candidates choose an option to pursue, and also take courses in educational research, technology, cultural competency, and leadership.

All courses are offered online through Ecampus to meet the needs of working professionals. Because this major is practitioner-based, it requires access to a classroom or informal learning environment to apply educational research, theory, and pedagogical practices, and for completion of an action research project.

Note: Completion of this degree does not lead to initial (preliminary) teaching licensure; it is an advanced degree for continued professional development in targeted areas.

These areas of focus are approved by the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC) and nationally accredited.

There are four options offered for the Master of Education program:

  • Advanced Science and Mathematics Education
  • English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
  • Social Justice in Education
  • Free-choice (informal) learning
