Research/Career Interests:

I am a geologist by academic and professional training and a science educator by heart.  My passion is teaching, specifically teaching geoscience to non-majors including pre- and in-service teachers.  I am especially interested in my students building their own knowledge through individual and group investigations.  I aim to make my students think like scientists in solving classroom as well as outside-the-classroom questions.  I am also interested in field-based instruction.

My current science education research interests are aimed towards several areas:

  1. The impact of science professional development on teacher's learning and practice
  2. The implementation of data-rich instruction in K-16 classrooms, especially around climate change
  3. Developing questioning skills around science topics for pre-service teachers
