His research focuses on the pedagogical practices of teachers in dual language/ESOL classrooms and the incorporation of community cultural wealth through the use of multicultural children’s. Additionally, through a LatCrit and feminist frames, his research focuses on issues of discourse and identity production as it pertains to male elementary teachers in a gendered profession taking in to account the multiple intersections of gender, race, language and immigration. Lastly, his work seeks to make connections to the preparation of future teachers as it pertains to educating emergent bilinguals and students of color.


Dr. Lara is a native of the Northwest. As a transnational youth he grew up in both the US and Mexico. He is bilingual and bicultural. He has 14 years of education experience in dual language, ESL and teacher education/supervision settings. He holds a Ph.D. from The University of Texas at Austin in Bilingual/Bicultural Education, a Masters in Education and Bachelors with emphasis in Bilingual Education/ESL from Boise State University.
